Default Credit to Real Estate information source?

I've come across an interesting situation and am wondering if it's ok to do this: I was commenting and adding local information to media reports about the real estate market in Chicago and obviously linking to the article from the source so visitors can view the actual report itself.

Checking back on one of those posts, I've realized that this particular publication deletes it's news articles after a couple of weeks so the link just goes to the publication with a page saying the article is no longer available to view.

Would it be OK to copy the entire article and provide all of the information such as source and writer to place somewhere so the information does not just disappear? I'm not out to copy content but the source of information about the particular topic is necessary for reference to readers.

Once again - full credit to the publication and author would be provided. Any thoughts on doing this?

I would personally contact the publication, asking them where they archive the article, as most likely that's what they are doing.

    Also offer your suggestion:
Copying the article in it's entirety while giving credit to the source, along with author, and a link to where it's hosted.

I personally think they just archive them somewhere else on the site. Maybe recommend to them, if they are doing that, to 301 the old link to the new one, so people can link to their articles without problems?
If you're not remembered, you never existed.

    Thanks Brandon,

I think this publication could care less about links to their site or even content since they have so much of it. It's kind of weird that they delete the articles out and I know they do since I am also a subscriber and can't find access to them even when I log into the subscribers area and look for the archived articles.

It's not that their articles have too much thought in them since they are basically just reporting on news provided to them from multiple sources. The other alternative is to just rewrite them with the information provided and cite the sources I suppose. The problem with this is the blog could get really long and the main intent would be diluted.

Get permission or don't copy. It is that simple, that straight, that easy to figure out.

Thanks. Had a meeting today and saw some stats so the thought process has changed anyways.

Thanks Brandon. Actually that worked and problem solved.

I've written a research paper or two (or who knows how many in College) and having the reference to cite has always been pretty easy. For the web, it's a little different not being able to provide a direct link for readers to follow if they so choose to read what I'm writing about for a comparison between National and the local stats that I'm providing.

The source in question was a newspaper by the way.
