Thread: Numbers in domain names

    Default Numbers in domain names

Anyone have any insight on numbers in domain names?

I heard dashes were not the best thing to have in a domain name, but was wondering about numbers.

Example: replacing the word 'for' with 4.

Do they have an impact (good or bad) on serp or rating in the SE's?

    Thanks in advance.

I have never liked them, but it's a personal preference thing. To ambiguous and you have to buy with and without just to make sure noone scoops the alternate and grabs your type in.

From a rankings perspective they make no difference.

    Thanks,

The problem is these days all the 'for' domains are taken and only the 4 ones remain.

I'm going through a domain buying binge at the moment

I hear you jessiesc, I went on a G-daddy binge earlier, think I am up to 50-60. net is not so popular, but maybe a biz or info might be worth checking out. I'd bet they would come up on searches what ever the domain was. I have an agent that has the 4 in her name and I don't think she complains. You know the story, late to the dance doesn't get the prettiest girl.

For what it's worth I've got numbers and dashes in my domain, tampahomes24-7.com, I don't what I was thinking . It is a bit of pain when trying to give someone your email address over the phone.

Yes, ungainly URL's are a pain. Mine is gregg@propertyinsantacruz.com. As you can guess there is a lot of room there for transposing letters. So I use my original site name from the late 90's of gcamp@gcamp.com. Much easier to say and I have a 301 redirect for the site and e-mail forwarding to a central Outlook account from several sites. This allows for consolidation of the communication into client folders for ease of searching later. When I e-mail them back I have the full www.propertyinsantacruz e-mail as they can just respond and don't have to worry about spelling errors.

My question is does anyone know if there is any bias pro or con for numbers in URL's , and secondly if there is any SE bias towards other suffix URL's, .net,.info, biz, etc.

I was told, the other url's don't serp as well can anyone offer insight?

I have no solid information about this though but, I've been considering getting a few .net and .org domains.

I've never read anything from the experts stating that .biz, .info or having numbers in the url decreases SE results. They can make domain names harder to remember but as far as SE results...I've never read anything negative. You might not notice too many .biz or .info domain names coming up because they're not as common and many big businesses either were the first on the Internet or buy the names they want for a ridiculous amount of money.

If the name makes sense for your business I say buy it.

I've been told several times that .net, .org are not as good.
