Locally my experience has been that the rules are only applied when it is convenient to do so. Example- I was found "guilty" of using MLS in metatags last spring. In my defense, I pointed out that the majority of firms on the committee hearing my case were doing the same thing. No matter. I later filed complaints against those firms. Do you know what happened? nothing. They say "the matter has been tabled until we get an opinion from NAR".

Unfortunately, that seems to be the parenting method that NAR applies to us. Even R . com has a MLS Search button.
No They Don't (edit: Thanks Sax!...YES THEY Do. Look at that!) None of us are prohibited from allowing consumers from searching homes. It is the three little letters; MLS that we are prohibited from using.

Honestly I understand both sides of the argument, but NAR went about it the wrong way. They want control over the term MLS so third parties can not use it. Since they could not get that, they want to control us from using it as they want that term to go away! What they should have done is:
Come up with the new term.
    Copyright it
    Trademark it
and then allow only Realtors to use it under a limited use agreement like we have with 'Realtor"

Then we would have a leg up on all these third party sites that are bastardizing MLS.

Larry, go to r .com's home page and look at the bottom of the page... and then click on the words "MLS Search"

I had to do a "find on this page" search to see it. Damn old age is tough, LOL

Thanks. This should be a point of contention for those that have been taken to the ethics board on this.
