    Default Landing page question

If you have 1,000 inbound links, is it better to have all links pointing to the main page, or 500 to the main page, 250 to page x and 250 to page y? Or does it matter?

When you spread your backlinks to different pages on your site, the links look more natural. But in my opinion in doesn't matter.

So far, over 90% of my links are pointed to my main page. If your page has easy navigation, it should not matter. I would rather have a really strong "index" page that is working its way to the top of the rankings.

My secondary pages will rank based on specific keywords (neighborhoods and schools) where the competition is weak.

I've read that deep links with appropriate anchor text are very good. I think this is especially good for long tail results.

that's my thinking also, but i don't have any real evidence to support it.

Landing pages are a great way to provide your customers the information they need in one convenient location, and they can help you convert web clicks into clients. While they may take some work to set up and maintain, they can drastically improve your online marketing efforts.

Links that go directly to a site's interior pages enhance usability because, unlike generic links, they specifically relate to users' goals. Websites should encourage deep linking and follow three guidelines to support its users.

Deep links to interior pages are good for your site but hard to find.

What do you really mean by that Bigtoe?

shouldn't links to any of your pages main page or interior pages help your main page equally since all your pages should be linked to each other and passing page rank to each other??

From an SEO stand point I think they are about the same. However, from a markting and bounce rate - interior link can help. If you anchor text is "Land for sale in Knoxville" and you link to your page list "Land for sale in Knowville" the user will stay on your site longer. They will also come away with a more positive impression of the site and may visit again.

Links to interior pages are called deep links. I am having a hard time finding links to my interior pages. I would like to boost the PR of some of my interior pages to help them rank for the long tail searches plus the PR is also passed back up to my homepage.
