Two good quality articles a month can go a long way, but there is other factors to consider.
First how many sites would you be distributing to? What topics will you be covering? Which sites would you be distributing them to?
As far as "dangers" of article submission there is relatively few. As long as the topic is not self promotion, you should be fine as long as you follow each sites terms of service.
How-ever some topics are better to be blogged about, its just a matter of knowing which would create the better article or blog post. For example, a neighborhood profile might be a better blog post then an article.
i would say at least 1 pr release a month would be good, combined with blogging on a weekly basis, probably daily if you have enough time and throw in a couple articles in between to different speciality sites

So I'm curious about the frequency Dallas Broker suggests. I like to sell real estate more than I like to do web pages (I earned a CS and CE degree and quit the industry to sell real estate). How do you have time to do all that and still sell? Do you recommend this frequency if you are doing the work yourself?

I work about 10-14 hours a day. typical 9:00 a.m - 2:00 a.m schedule. I work on website and web daily for a couple hours, post blogs and articles when I have something to write about (better to post quality than quantity on blogs and articles in my opinion), hang out on forum whenever possible, and do press releases when necessary, although starting campaign beginning of next year for 1/week. Inbetween I sell real estate and do apartment locating, what I can't handle I pass on to my agents. I stopped working on selling real estate this year in June bec. I had a good year and spent 3rd and 4th quarter mostly managing and builder brokerage.
Best advice, is to spend everyday doing the most you can moving forward, as long as you accomplish something for each day and still sell enough real estate to keep you head above water, you can't lose. Some agents I speak with work a couple months out of year, some a couple of quarters and others 365 days a year. It all depends on what your goals and expectations are for year end.

Maybe you don't have the time to do all that depending on your goals as Dallas Broker mentioned, but consider several options:Many who consider the internet their farm (web site, etc) do nothing else to generate leads or clients. So, instead of door-knocking, cold-calling, newsletters, mailers, etc., that time is spent doing the various things related to gaining internet presence. If the internet is not your primary focus or you don't enjoy working on your web site then doing these things may not be for you, especially if other things that you do are working well for generating business.
- Pay someone to write and submit the articles,
- Hire an assistant to help you with other tasks,
- Rarely sleep and do it after the real estate day in the wee hours,
- Have no life,
- Form a team, or
- Don't blog or write any articles.
The internet is not for everyone....pick what you enjoy doing or are good at doing and become the best at doing that.

Thanks for the perspective. I never really thought of the internet as a "farm" until now. I generally have focused on past clients and referrals as my farm. To me the internet was just a nice way to supplement that and branch out more than one degree of separation into new circle if it produced at all. I think the new perspective will help me with making time for it, now that I can justify it as investing in my farm instead of working on my website.
thanks guys!
