    Default College Football playoffs

This year has been wildly entertaining in the college football world. With so many ranked teams going down, including Mizzou, Oregon and West Vigrinia yesterday, this year tells me that we need playoffs to really determine who is #1. What do you think?

I don't think they'll ever do it... so, I think Google should come up with their own type of BCS-type ranking algo.

I could see having a playoff of maybe like 4 or 8 teams. This season it seems like LSU, Georgia and Oklahoma could all have an argument for playing in the championship in addition to Ohio State. Its wierd through because sometimes I dont like playoffs with too many teams. If like 16 teams compete it sometimes seems like in a way it kind of de values the regular season.

No playoffs! College football is unique and adding a playoff would just add games to the schedule and increase injuries (or take away natural rivalries).

Really... what a cool year, and with so much to talk about I couldn't imagine a playoff system adding more to the hype.

I agree. A playoff game wouldn't really tell you who the best team is anyway. Anyone can win one game. The rankings are based on the whole of the season. Even if they did screw up by putting LSU and Oklahoma ahead of Georgia.

We lost our chance when we came out flat against Tenn and lost. If we had played Tenn 10 times we would have beat them 8 times but they caught us on an off night.

The loss to Tenn cost us our opportunity to play LSU in the SEC championship and ultimately the opportunity to play for the National Championship. It happens - look at W. Virginia.

They so need a playoff system in place. Ohio St. is in the championship game, but really who did they play? Michigain, which lost to Appalachian State! Wisconsin which almost lost to UNLV. The big ten was very weak this year and I think it will show when LSU plays a very over rated Ohio St. team.

So true. Some of these divisions have one major team that win year after year. The only solution would be a playoff. I also hate the idea of these big colleges accepting money to play the weaker younger teams. What kind of BCS system is that.

It depends upon the day for me. The system obviously has it problems currently in the way that teams are being ranked. Years such as this when you have no clear undefeated king it becomes more evident. I think more value needs to be put into which division some of these schools play within. LSU has been plagued by this for the past 2 seasons. Last year they should have been ranked in the top 5. By luck, had Mizzu and WV not fallen, LSU would have been in the same boat as last year when they are clearly a top 3 school. I think the major problem with a playoff system would be the lack of advertising funds. Bowl games generate millions for each conference, and if they eliminate the bowl games I don't see them generating anywhere close to the amount they do currently. I agree that a playoff system would be the best way to determine who is number one. But another problem is adding that many more games to the college system, and putting these top players at that much more of a risk to injury. For some of these players you can tell that they already go half speed during the bowl games so they don't jeopardize their NFL draft status. Its a catch 22.

The playoff doesn't really solve anything.

The best team could get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs and not be in the championship game just like they get eliminated in a bad week without a playoff system.

There is no way to be sure the top 2 teams will play for the championship - playoff or no playoff.
