Thumbs down Easy Single Property Website

    Hey Everyone -

instead of paying $15 bucks a month, or paying $80+ for up front costs - Here's an easy solution for under $15 to have a single property website-

First, create a flyer @ postlets.com or vflyer.com. Upgrade the flyer for $5.

Then you purchase a domain name from godaddy.com for $5-$7. Point the domain name at the address of the flyer and you are all set. These flyers look significantly better than most of the templates the single property website people offer.

And then, you own the domain name for a year so if you get another high end listing in the same area, you can create a new flyer and have the domain name point to the new one. For example, at HallowellHistoricHome.com, I didn't use the address of the property, I chose descriptors and the area because I can use it as a marketing tool to gain other similar listings.

How about using subdomains? Instead of the $5-7 per each new full domain, set up HallowellHistoricHome.CBMaine.com using GoDaddy for free. The search engines will still see them as being separate, like a new domain, but for free.

    What do you think?

That's a great idea - however, using a subdomain makes a longer url, & a harder to remember url. I usually try for something that people can remember easy when the see the sign. That way when they get home, they can type it in. Also, with my background in web design, I always design for the lowest common denominator - meaning, a lot of people are not saavy with the computer and can just do the basics - so a subdomain presents a challenge for them because they are rigid and follow the www.url.com format.

That is actually a pretty good idea - it was posted in the website reviews section, which is incorrect (I will move it for you) and once again, great idea

great advice. you may use .info domains as they are usually available in $1-$3 and some companies offer them from free as well.

Based on my web design background, I would always want a .com
People usually just remember the url, so they will take 11MiddleStreet.us and will invariably type in 11Middlestreet.com.

I've worked with a lot of websites, and unless it's a .org, you will lose traffic due to .com confusion.

You can still use a subdomain or any other page on your site. Just market the new domain name and have it point to the page on your site, no need to set up hosting for the new domain. So HallowellHistoricHome.com could point to cbmaine.com/HallowellHistoricHome/.

You can absolutely do that - I use postlets because when you create a flyer it automatically posts to Trulia, googlebase, Zillow, Oodle, Edgio, Vast, & others. And the template itself is superior to most - map, walkable map, calculators, etc. Not only that, you have the added traffic & SEO of the postlets.com site which probably outweighs traffic & seo positioning of our own websites. Using postlets, I'm not paying any hosting charges - I just pay $5 for the flyer with all of the bells & whistles, $5 for the domain name and I'm done.

you can also make a free google page and get a whateveryouwant.googlepages.com domain name. Just visit www.googlepages.com. They also let you point a godaddy domain name at the site too if you want, and you don't need any HTMl knowledge to make the pages.
