Default What camera for RE pics?

From what I can find its been a few years since this was discussed. Please point me to the threads if I'm wrong.

What's the best digital camera for interior photos (for the money)? I'm sure there are those who use $1500+ cameras, plus tripods, flashes, etc. Maybe thats what it really takes?

I dont remember the model but a salesperson showed me a Cannon and had a wide angle lens, not an SLR type, just a small procket kind around 3-400$, was nice, I will see if I have the info someplace.

Best to go with a wide angle lens (somewhere between 7-12mm). I have a Konica Minolta that I love, but that they quit making. It has built in anti shake and has been great to work with. For the lens you can go with a less expensive one (you don't need the nikon, tamron would likely be fine).

You can generally get a great body for $400-500 and then spend another $500 on a wide angle lens, figure $200 for a external flash and simple tripod. This setup should cover you for a good while.

The images you get with this setup will make your listings look better and are more than adequate for both printing and web display.

Depends what kind of photos you want to shoot / show ... but I can tell you from experience that there isn't a compact digital camera made with a decent wide angle lens (which most Agents need for certain interior shots).

Someone (above) referenced a 7-12mm wide angle >> there is no such lens. I've got an EF-S 10-22mm Canon lens for my Digital SLR, which is the "widest" wide-angle lens Canon makes. Anything "wider" than this is actually a fish-eye lens (great for certain special effects - lousy for real estate photography). Also, Digital SLR cameras *those under $4000* use a smaller than full frame sensor, which results in what is referred to as a conversion factor. On the Canon XTi, conversion factor is 1.6x, on the Nikon D40, it's 1.5x. Multiply the focal length of the lens by the conversion factor to get the relative focal length of the setup.

Check out this site for all the info about digital photography, including references for digital cameras from $100 - $20K

If you want a full body D-SLR, but don't want to spend a ton of money, either the Canon Digital Rebel XTi or Nikon D40. Quality lenses (glass) will cost 2-3x the price of the camera body. Don't forget to invest in a good flash

    I've got about $3000 tied up in a Nikon D'something with a Nikon Flash, Nikon 10 -20 Wide angle, 30 - 70 mid and a 80 - 200 telephoto.
I've had homes sell in 2 days because of the great pictures. I've got other homes with great pictures that have been on the market a year or more.

For home exteriors almost any camera and lens will work just fine. Just pick a nice sunny day to take the photos. Morning and Evening makes the photo look the best. At high noon pictures look like crap.

Inside you NEED a wide angle lens and great lighting if you want good pictures. Turn on EVERY light in the house and use an on camera flash or if you want to get fancy use two or three off camera flashes. Don't point the flash at the room in front of the camera, bounce the light off the ceiling or a wall behind the camera. A tripod can also help a good deal.

You can see what some of my home photos look like at flickr http://flickr.com/photos/rehoboth-beach/ Not incredible but a good deal better than average.

Thanks to everyone for sharing. Do you guys use any software to "touch-up"? I've seen some "bad" pics that were touched up and didn't even look like the same pic.

    re: Canon PowerShot SD870

That camera doesn't have a Wide angle lens .... check the specs >>

    28 - 105mm lens

One of the biggest complaints is people purchasing equipment and then finding out it doesn't do what they thought it would. In this case, even though the literature says "3.8x Wide-Angle Zoom lens to get more family and friends into one perfect photo", if you read more closely you'll see exactly what you're getting.

28 is wide. Most point and shoots are 35mm equivalent. I have the camera, its much wider than a normal point and shoot canon.
