I am trying to understand word presses purpose. Is this for creating a blog within your own site?

    Hi, Dave!

Wordpress allows you to create a blog in three ways. You can let the folks at Wordpress host your blog. You can create a blog within your own site (http://www.wheatworks.com/wp for example) or you can create a standalone blog so that it is your web site (http://www.mscaregiver.com is an example of where a blog is the site).

I've not tried the first approach in which WordPress does the hosting, but the second two approaches work well.

I'm sure it depends on your content, but I'll share that the Wheatworks Blog receives more visits per day than the Wheatworks.com home page.

Of course, the home page doesn't change nearly as often as the blog. Within a few months of setting up the Wheatworks blog within the wheatworks.com site, the site's traffic had doubled.

    Have a prosperous 2008!

Dave, I'm not aware of any better online tutorials. However, there are 3 books you may find helpful: "WordPress For Dummies", "WordPress 2 (Visual Quick Start)" and "WordPress Complete". They're available at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Dave - if you have any questions about installing or modifying WP, ask away! There are a lot of WP afficionados on this forum.

BTW - step 1 is to set up your mysql database. If you're using shared hosting, you can do this in your control panel. Take note of the database name, user name, and password. You might have to find out the hostname, as well - you definitely will if you're hosting on godaddy or 1&1.

Go for it. It is easier than it looks.

    I really don't recommend 1and1.
