Question on Back links on Google

I have a questions on my back links. I have lots of sites linking to me but they don't appear on the back links page on Google; they however are on the "contain the term" pages. It's confusing, can anyone explain.

Google only reports a sample or subset of the actual links they have spidered and recognized in their algo. Rest assured you get credit for them if they are on cached pages but the reporting will never reflect all of your links.

Try MSN or Yahoo for a more representative outlook on your backlinks but even they dont report "all" of them
