Map search speed

I've spent time looking at other rew map searches this morning and some are pretty slow (mine included) and others are not. I know some of the speed is tied in to the server, but are there any other factors involved in how quickly the data maps?

I am considering adding a side bar to my map search but only if the map loads more quickly than it does now.

Speed should improve some more still as more people are moved but how much more improvement isn't clear...
