They have been talking about this for a long time, and now it looks like its going to happen.
Now Microsoft will show Yahoo how to do business.

I'm all for it. Google need stronger competition. A solid competitor is the only thing that will keep Google honest.
Thats exciting. I rank even better for yahoo. Hopefully this will make more people search by yahoo.
You'll rank even better in Yahoo if they adopt some of live.com or msn's ways of producing search results. It seems like MSN is pretty easy to rank in.

Did MSN strike some sort of deal with Remax?
Checkout the results for this search: http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q...st=1&FORM=PERE
7 out of the top 10 are generic Remax templates and they rank heavily on page 2 as well.

If this deal does go through it would definitely increase competition in the search engine business. I would love to see the day when we return to having this business be more competitive where 3-4 companies are all doing well instead of just one company. It would definitely force a shake up in the SEO world and the way they think and strategize for their clients. Company websites (Realtors included) wouldn't be forced to do well on just one search engine, but could choose the space they wanted to compete in and optimize for that SE.
When you look at the yesterday's Earnings reports for G, their stock has been taking huge hits in the last 3 months...although their adword business is up in this last quarter. Yahoo's stock has actually been sliding for the last 4 years...but they have a great brand name. Microsoft just released their earnings and they are still growing earnings tremendously. So..If Microsoft is successful with a 50% cash and 50% stock buy out of Yahoo...maybe we will finally get back to some good competition in the search engine space.
But then again...I'm sure most would like to keep it the same with just one major player with G.....

Wow, this is new news to me. Anyone have any good articles where I can read more about this? Unfortunately, even with Microsoft's acquisition with Yahoo, Google will still be on top. Who knows though, that will definitely give Microsoft a solid boost in the search market.
Like anyone who does anything on the internet I am also quite interested in this acquisition. I am a little worried about the culture clash however, Yahoo is more open source friendly then MS but at the same time a lot of the big wigs at yahoo have been leaving (now we know why).
I feel like MSN has better search while yahoo has a killer brand. I know that MS has been working very hard to become a contender in the search market, I was a little surprised this took as long as it has.
The next year or so should be interesting in Microsoft land.
Another question - will it open the door for a third - maybe an upstart?
