I have looked around but didn't see anything really good other than maybe mortgage quotes but most of the cool ones carry adwords which I don't want to put on my site.

I would like to create a gadget for local something, been thinking about it. Maybe xxville local restaraunt mini review of the day or something like that. Aaron Wall insists this is a great marketing tool, G gadgets get millions of pageviews a day and you could also give it away on your homepage to increase subscribers.

I don't think it will increase your ranking if anything you would likely be leaking PR through the text links attached to most like mortgagewatch or driving traffic away from your site for the ones with adwords I would think.

What I've noticed with Google's Webmaster tools is that if you use them to new sites, your sites will get indexed faster in as fast as 24 hours, most especially if you have a couple of contents in your new site already.

Well, that's based on experience. I'm not sure if it'd produce the same results with other sites.

    I use google news.

Haven't noticed a bit of difference but it keeps news on the site. I turn it on and off as sometimes it makes the page slow to load.

Thumbs down Re: Google Gadgets - Anyone using them

Thanks for making this thread Robert, I have a lot of projects going and had filed creating a gadget away for later but this thread got me thinking and after a good nights sleep I woke up this morning with an easy way for me to do it.

I think my local users would like an upcoming local events feed better than restaurant reviews. I am going to move this project off the back burner (at least to the middle one) and will maybe make a thread about it if it gets off the ground.

I have to apologize, I credited Aaron Wall for my inspiration to create a google gadget when in fact it was Patrick Sexton over at seoish.com, he has a great series about creating google gadgets going on over there right now, great stuff. Thanks Patrick!

We use the Google RSS reader for the main page of our website but haven't seen much traffic due to using this widget.
