That technique is overly complicated for most real estate AdWords setups. A comprehensive list if individual negative keywords at the campaign level, and a small number at the ad group level, combined with carefully selected phrase match and a couple of "catch all" broad match terms in the same ad group, allows the ad to show only for highly relevant keyword phrases, and the broad match keywords catch low impression variations that can be very ROI effective.

if you do it right it takes very little time
    (1min per adgroup max)

but it is something extra to get your head around

are you suggesting that negative embeded isnt beneficial to any campaign using both exact and broad match or that it is too complicated for someone new to adwords?

id like to speak to you ronnieG do you mind if i give you a call tommorow?

I am saying that my position, and my experience, is that exact match keywords are a waste of time and end up being more expensive than a combination of broad and phrase match with appropriate campaign negatives. Call me if you like. 9am-6pm mountain time.

all i said is IF you do use exact match AND broad match

its important to also use negative embeded match
which also entails not having exact and broad match keywords in the same ad group

i agree that using broad match and campaign negatives is another effective strategy
(if you dont require as much control)

the only thing that i believe all advertisers should do
    is turn off search partners
unless you are running local ads (google map ads)
(for those ads to show properly search partners MUST be on)
