Wordpress SEO

Since most of us use Wordpress for blogging, I feel it is a good idea to compile a list of Wordpress best practices for SEO.

I recently learned that you should only submit your post to one category, even if there is another category it can be filed under. This is to prevent duplicate content.

I also read somewhere that the only the meta description tag is worth using and there really is no SEO plugin that is required for Wordpress. True?

I have also been contemplating trying something different. Drupal? But too scared to move my blog unless I can find some detailed instructions.

Anyone else got anything to add?

I didn't know about the duplicate content deal. i just submitted a link earlier today with two seperate categories and that may be the same thing. i am going to change that immediately. have you ever heard of bevolution, i have a blog with them. unless you want something that looks better, i noticed most blogs with ping services hit the searches within hours. is that your experience?

I've never heard of bevolution.

Recently I have noticed that my blog posts are showing in google within minutes (sometimes as low as 8) or me posting it and updating the sitemap. In the past, it would sometimes take a couple of days or more.

No reason to use ANYTHING but Wordpress IMO...what it the potential upside to changing to Drupal?

Google does index blog posts quickly when done correctly.

SEO Title Tag Plugin (from Net Concepts) is the most versatile SEO plugin that I have found. Although there are many plugins available, I recommend it. Gives me more control if I want it.

No particular reason to move to Drupal, other than just wanting to try it. I may just start a new site from scratch instead of moving an existing one.

I'm an even bigger fan of Drupal than I am of WordPress... and I'm a huge fan of WordPress. For the purposes of blogging, however, WordPress is king, and there's really no reason to switch to Drupal. Drupal is a lot more advanced and is better suited for building a website that is a more expansive, interactive community type website.
