Anybody use Live Chat, or a reasonable facsimile whereas the Visitor can Click an Icon to open a window for real-time back and forth E-mail Communication?

i think the only way live chat will be effective, if you have tons of visitors per day. it will become very frustrating waiting for browsers to come to your site and you only have 20 uniques per week.

i would only use live chat it i incorporated a very aggressive ppc ad campaign.

I like your idea of pairing live chat with a ppc campaign. I would like to know if you have incorporated a similar campaign as you speak of and if you have what kind of success did you have?

I wouldn't want my PPC traffic to be looking at a live chat. I would have them at an IDX Search / Capture page without even giving them a chance to do anything else.

Of course they would go to an IDX search. What I am talking about is being available for instant communication if they see something they like. He who responds first gets the deal 75% of the time. But, hey to each their own.

A big question I have with live chat is how much time do we have to sit around waiting for someone to chat with. It just seems to me like if I had enough time to sit and do that then I could be doing something a little more productive like calling my database.

Not to say that it will not work, nor that you will not be able to close a few deals from it, but unless you have serious traffic burning through your site I don't see a high return on your investment.

i've never had success / many takers with live chat. Alamode now has a live chat feature built into their site which works OK and enables users to initiate a chat themselves and also allows you to:

    1) engage the user via a pop-up (which many would think is intrusive),
    2) see exactly what page they are visiting on your site
    2) take control of their visit and take them to a specific page of your website (kind of a cool feature IF you have someone that engaged you with a specific question that could be answered on your website)

That being said, when we tried to test out the feature, we had very few chats so we simply disabled the feature. better to be out selling than waiting for someone to start a chat dialog.
