    Default Duplicate Content Tool

What is the best tool to check for duplicate content? I've tried Copyscape, but I am not that impressed with the results.

I recently found several sites that copied original content form my site. A few years ago I hired a copywriter to write original content for my site. Later, she sold my content to about 20 other local sites.

The duplicate content was brought to my attention by a friend that entered some text from my site into Google. Google found some duplicate content that Copyscape missed.

Any other good tools or methods for checking my entire site?

If this is for a blog, I have used http://blogsearch.google.com/. Somewhat manual, but truly what Google sees.

i have always used google to verify duplicate content. I find someone that has copied some type of content from one of blogs, websites, network sites at least every month. Just found vp of operations for brokerage here in dallas that copied my content word for word and placed on facebook recently. You've got to be proactive in your tracking efforts or you will be taken advantage of. I would be interested in other methods for tacking copied content as well.

Have you ever thought about embedding a unique ID in the source code and then being able to search on that via Google? It does not help you when someone retypes the article, but it would help with the cut and paste problem.

How much does duplicate content hurt you? If you have 1 article that is from another website can that hurt?
