Thread: Web Content Theft

  1. Default Re: Web Content Theft

You are right Nick. Funny thing happened to me the other day that shows how uninformed real estate agents are. I was having a conversation with a competitor and she told me she liked one of my images so she went to use it on her site, but the right click trick saved me. Apparently, this agent thought it alright to just take the image, as she wouldn't have told me about it. I didn't tell her the image she wanted I got from Clipart.com!

If you are hosting the image, just change it so it says something like "So and so stole this from the web site of xx .com".

I know several who have done this, and it took the site owner weeks to find out about it.

I have never looked if people are stealing my content. Gives me something to do this afternoon.

There will be no end to content thieves. I suppose it is the corollary to "build an idiot proof device and we will build a better idiot." Just defend your work as the situation arises or risk losing domain over your work. Probably not worth obsessing about, but certainly worth looking after time-to-time.

i thought copyrighted meant something. if your materials is truly copyrighted, there are fines and fees people will have to pay. the burden would be on to prove it, and if you do prove, you will be repaid for damages, but you have to justify how their hijacking your work caused you to lose money. with google analytics and webmaster tools, you shouldn't have too much of a problem.

also you will have to go through all of the court procedures.

Copyright is very misunderstood too...you do not have to register it to be copyrighted; just the act of creation is copyright. Registration is putting some more teeth behind it but not "MORE" copyrighted (is that a word?).

I like to use www.copyscape.com to check for copies of my site. Also it was mentioned that unique sentences that are googled can turn stuff up. I also like http://www.archive.org/index.php and use the WAYBACK machine and you can prove to them who had the material up first!
