Snippets in footer?

I need to upgrade my default footer with some enhanced html, but with the limit on max number of characters allowed, I thought I might be able to do it with a snippet. However, calling a snippet in the default footer doesn't seem to work. Should it?

Snippets will only work in the Body HTML section. How much HTML are you putting in the Footer? I should allow for like 65,000 characters. I've raised this to 16 million characters ... which I should do the trick.

OK, Aaron, I can't figure out if you are pulling my chain or serious <g>.
65k is more than enough. 2k would more than do what I need. I must have assumed that the CMS2 footer limit was the same as the old CMS. Silly me!
