    Default Headlines

Writers' block is one thing, but headlines, ack. Sometimes I'll have three finished articles just waiting on a title.

Anyone have any brilliant ideas on coming up with clever, catchy headlines? Do you think it's more important to have something that captures the essence of the article or something that's going to catch attention?

Cheryl shared this article with me : http://www.copyblogger.com/how-a-few...e-and-content/ but it really seems like a better resource for getting focused on article content than writing a great headline. But maybe I'm wrong and people love really literal titles? (Whew - that would sure make my job easier .)

Sara, I totally know what you mean. Brainstorming and coming up with a topic are time consuming, but once I get something interesting to bite into, the writing goes really quickly. Editing comes next, and isn't too bad, but then there's the title. I sometimes fritter away a lot of time coming up with something catchy.

On the other hand, titles are kind of my favorite part because it's my opportunity to play a bit and get creative. In fact, just this morning I found a scrap piece of paper at home from months ago where I'd written down article ideas & titles. One of the titles warmed my stone cold heart, so it's going to be my next piece

Titles can be tough... Sometimes I'll do a quick keyword search on Google or Yahoo to see if anything catches my eye or inspires me, but generally I'll try to come up with a couple variations of the title, some of which are questions and other versions that are statements and see what sounds catchier

    Sara,

When you are able to come up with something creative, do you prefer to post these articles in certain directories? Do you see some better than others?

I have to admit Jason - I only write the articles. We have submitters who do the heavy lifting.

    Hey, Jason.

We don't aim for anything specific except for quality, when it comes to the directories we submit our articles to. Of course, the big ones, like Ezinearticles, Searchwarp, Amazines (...the list goes on..)

In terms of seeing some article sites as better than others, we certainly do. There are a lot of trashy ones out there - we try to stay away from those ones
