    Default agent/chat technonlogy

Has anyone every used the live agent/chat technonlogy? This is the software that allows a potential client to initiate a live chat with you and hopefully you can convert them. I was just wondering if anyone has had any success using it and to see if it is worth the price. Thanks!

Depends on the software, there are many many irc type programs out there. Also one downfall of live chat is that you MUST have someone manning it, or it defeats the purpose. If you have a live chat button and someone uses it, but does not get a response it shows that you are not being responsible to the resources you are supplying and thus you would lose the users confidance and I feel they would likely leave your site.

You could always find one that works with a blackberry as well and carry that around with you...

Also, think about allowing them to IM you via MSN messagner or Yahoo Messanger and it will be FREE, plus they have little codes/buttons that show if "you're online" from your websites as well so it might be very similar....

Get the three of four major ones (yahoo, MSN, AIM, and ICQ), use a free program like Trillian that combines then all for you and there you go, you're set...
People on the net should hopefully have at least ONE fo them...

I just noticed my Hosting service offers FREE Live chat scripts that work just like live person.. they are pre installed and come with all kinds of features... there are two or three of them. Maybe before spending any $ on live person you could try it first with something like that if your host provides it... and if you dont want to go the "IM" route...

May I ask if you use a pretty common host or a smaller company?

Well actually i purchased a VPS (Virtual Private Server) for a whopping $24 a month and I get tons of support, installed scripts, unlimited email and domain hosting and all kinds of other stuff. 5 GB of space to hold it all and 100GB of bandwidth to show the world.. And I'd say "YES" for a wholesale hosting company it's a big one, for retail probably not as much.. Oh and I resell my space on my VPS... Who do you use?

We are currently using AgentImage's servers, but am looking to take the site in about 4 weeks. I have been looking at GlobalServers and am just not sure...yet.

You might also check into PowerVPS. I haven't been with them long but so far so good.
