I know how to create the sitemap in the back office. I want a link in my footer that say sitemap. I am know I have control over the name in webmaster tools of the sitemap. How do I create a sitemap.xml file so I can point to that page?

Do you have a purpose for wanting to link to a sitemap.xml file besides wanting your pages to get indexed?
I ask because in your CMS, you can generate a Google Sitemap which purpose is to index your pages.

No other reason except to have my pages indexed with google. I did see the CMS option however I want to create a sitemap link on my home page. How do I know the name of the file so I know how to build the link?

Sorry, I'm confused.
If the only reason you want to create a sitemap is for indexing purposes, then all you have to do is 'Generate Google Sitemap' and all of your pages will be indexed by Google. You can view the .xml file by typing www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml, but if you link to that file, your vistors are likely to click on it and view foreign code that will not make sense to them.
If you want a sitemap that users can use, then just create a new cms page and use the #sitemap# snippet that we supplied to you.
