Thread: What has more "value"- Website page or Blog?

Default What has more "value"- Website page or Blog?

    This is a hypothetical question:

So I have a great idea for a new page for my website. Since I live in a resort town with 4 four golf courses, I am going to create a page with details about the local golf venues and the neighborhoods that surrounds each one.

    Should I:

    1) Create a new page for my website which is linked to from my home page.

    or

    2) Post the information to my Blog, which has it's own URL and is linked to from my home page.

    or

    3) Post the information to my REW blog

    or

    4) Post the information to my ActiveRain Blog.

    or

    5) Write and Article about it and upload it to GoArticles.com, etc.

Which of these choices has the most "value" in terms of increasing the overall position of my site in search engines?

Or should I use more than one choice?

I am posting this to the "blogging" forum only because I could not find a more appropriate place.

Would love to hear everyone thoughts and opinions on this one.

Since it is a hypothetical, there is no ONE right answer...especially since you are only concerned with how it affects the ranking of your main site. I cannot tell you what to do, only what I would do.

Assuming that your site ranks well for real estate, AND that it would be a reader friendly thing to branch off onto area golf courses, that would be a good thing to do, especially if it fit nicely into your theme.

NOTE: There may well be other places in your site from which you'd like to link to this page as well...would not hurt a bit. More internal links and more importantly BETTER usability for the reader.

As for a blog from a different url..you could do that, but that would not help the rankings of your MAIN site. However...depending on the authority of your blog, you could be it indexed and up in the search engines rather quickly.

Post the article to a third party blog (your examples were REW and AR), so I will go there. If I personally had a choice it would be to an REW blog. WHY: Because it is all about rankings and getting traffic. The main value that you will ever derive from adding content to another site is either links back to your site and more importantly RELEVANT traffic to your site.

IMO, REW drives more relevant traffic to your site because it will rank for them in the search engines (as of this posting) more quickly and higher than AR. AR drives (essentially) far more agent traffic than anything else...

I would do this IN ADDITION to other activities and not as a sole practice...just my view.

If you Google the keyword phrase Louisville condominium , you see that I have put into practice what I am preaching. I have used 2 of the 5 techniques you discuss (Page off of main site, REW blog) to garner good rankings and provide RELEVANT traffic to my site.

Writing articles--this is ALWAYS a good idea in addition to other activities...QUALITY articles are good things, especially if they get syndicated around. Again, this is in ADDITION to other efforts.

    Just my thoughts...hope it helps

Eric knows far more than I, but personally I would put the article on my own blog and promote the heck out of it with sites such as mybloglog, propeller, etc....

I would personally go for a page on my website linked from my home page perhaps using a telescoping nav bar. I would do this for the simple reason that I can control the format of a static page a bit better than a blog post (I tend to be more comfortable with HTML and CSS than PHP). I would then blog or write a press release-style article about your pages about each golf course.

That's just what I would do.

This is what I would do as well, but as with any page, if you don't point links to it, no one will find it! So with that said, I would write a blog, press release, and article submission with links pointing back to this page. But thats just me

I seem to be with the consensus here.

    1) Create the page on your website with a link to it from the home page if golf courses are an important part of your lead strategy. Link from a lesser page if this is not as important in your overall strategy.
    2) Blog on your own blog about it and link to the golf course page.
    3) Blog on REW's blog about it and link that to your golf course page.
    4) Any other places like AR or syndicated articles - do the same.

This should make the page pop on the SERPs if the overall site is ranking well.

I would do as Eric says and I think Wayne has it summarized well.

I blogged about a Condo auction on my site about 6 weeks ago. It has had about 547 views. We had seven registrants for the auction (and many more called), all coming from the blog entry (none bid high enough to get one, but a good show of the strength of blogging). I do believe that the searchers that ended up on our site probably saw something in the news that triggered their search, but the blog entry captured them and if it had not been made we would have had zero registrants for the auction.

Your golf blog probably won't have the surge of traffic I mentioned, but it should be an ongoing source of traffic. It amazes me that after several years of trying to figure out what a blog was and why people blogged I just bit the bullet and wrote an entry, I still get traffic from that first one. Why I can't discipline myself to blog like Ryan Ward puzzles me!

I would go with the article on your website. Joanie wrote a couple on our website and it got PR 2 in about two weeks. Only 1 or 2 of our blogs have PR, even though they rank well in the search engines.
