I am new to this site and want to start a video tour/brochure business. I have an extensive background in video and photography and really want to start this business. Any suggestions on how I can build a sample portfolio?

What experience do you have? I'm always looking for video people.
Start with your home and friends homes.... put up a site highlighting your skills, the sample vids/brochures and contact local agents/brokers directing them to the site?
OverlyReal.com - The best little real estate directory on the planet!
Do a few for "free" with some of the more prominent brokers in your area.
Everyone else will want to copy them, thinking that if they do what they do, they'll be successful as well.
You should have more business than you know what to do with - provided you do quality work.

I'm a broker in the Sarasota area. I have the largest internet presence of any broker in Englewood, Venice, Port Charlotte, North Port or Punta Gorda. I might consider posting some of your videos if the quality is good. It would be free advertising for you and added content for me. Maybe enough to get you started in the business; at least some free advertising.

You have good ideas out here, but you might be concerned with FREE. Let me tell you a bit about marketing. When Starbucks introduces a new drink, they give it away for free in target market areas ( I know this because I was involved with new product launches for them years ago) There is a local guy near me that builds Water Gardens and Water Features. He started bu going around to area gas stations, banks and garden centers and built them FREE water features in exchange for placing his sign prominently within the feature. A year later he is hugely popular and growing by leaps and bounds. This is in THIS economy. A Water Feature requiring a homeowner to refinance for a home equity loan or use disposable income. BOTH are hard to find today. Yet he is doing great!
So if you have a great product, do offer it for free to certain Brokers that can get you the exposure you need to prove the product works. If you have a great product, everyone will want it and rush to you to get it. Just look at REW here. No major advertising campaigns like AA, Point 2 or the others, yet they are doing great because they have a great product.

Thank you for the responses to my post. I would like to contact a few of the prominent brokers in my are but lack the confidence that I have a good reason as to why they would want video over the virutal tours they may be using now. I know that video is more apt to engage a person in a feeling of connection - hence the popularity of youtube - and I can use that as one selling point but what other selling point would convince a broker to try it?
