One technique that can come in handy is to tie Twitter to your other accounts. For example, I've set up a > blog which automatically sends the posts as messages to an > email list, which then pings and updates the >Twitter account. People can follow by RSS, email or Twitter, and they are all updated in one shot...
I post a headline and tiny URL to Twitter every time I publish a post on my blog. I like how that drives traffic to my posts so that the Views never says 0. I try to post local news items occasionally, especially newsworthy real estate statistics, and quirky local stories of interest. I recently made an out of state referral to another REW client when I saw a guy post on Twitter that he was thinking about moving. The buyer has been looking at homes with that Realtor and I'm told he's about to write on a home. Lately I've been trying to implement some of the Twitter "best practices" I've been reading about and that's suddenly resulted in a lot more followers. I've also been contacted by a couple of people locally who wanted to talk about real estate. But the main thing I've found Twitter useful for is the sense of community and information-sharing, especially among Realtors (note: I only talk to Realtors on Twitter who reside outside my area). Also, watch out for SEO and MLM spammers. I see an awful lot of them on Twitter. Best of luck. If you want to follow me my Twitter, my username is jolenta. If you're a Realtor, most likely I'll follow you back! :-D

Twitter and auto feeds to it are part of the social connection and networking. It makes it pretty simple to use 140 or less characters to say what you have to say.

"That's exactly what I have been doing but besides that there is not point to twitter, besides the fact that you can connect with other real estate agents."
Respectfully, I disagree completely. Twitter can be am AMAZING tool for engaging with non-real estate related people. You know, people that buy and sell real estate.
Like any social media/networking tool, it takes time and effort to build a following. And there are certainly behaviors that don't play well on social networks (behaviors that MANY agents use -- the hard sell, the "I'm a top producer! crap, pushing listings, etc.)
At this moment in time, I have one listing, one buyer client under contract, two very active and serious buyers, and two potential listings -- all from people I met through Twitter.
I've made HUGE expansions in my sphere of influence with Twitter. Try using it to facilitate meeting people "in real life". If you ENGAGE with people on Twitter and other social networks, you may be surprised at their effectiveness.
