How does your page rank?

Perhaps this is obvious and it's been discussed before but I did not see it. I was looking for a "point me in the right direction" on seeing where I rank for specific words, I have been just typing in Google and then scrolling until I see it. Is there a better way to see how I am doing etc, any advice would be apprecitaed, thank you ahead of time.

Yeah webmaster is spot on. There are a number of tools that you can use to easily check rankings, but they're against Google's TOS. The best and safest way is to use Google webmaster tools.

If you are using Firefox you can add SeaQuake as an addon to the browser. This has a lot of SEO tools that can help you see information quickly in either a toolbar or just a floating bar. It has Google page rank, how many pages indexed, links, yahoo and MSN info, Alexa rank, and more. This is a button on the bar as well that is labeled density, and if you click that it will list all the keywords you are using on that page. It also allows you to get all the Google numbers on the different keywords.

Being a bit old fashioned, I like to check manually.

I've found that www.Google.com/webmasters/tools is a snapshot in time and not always acurate when you check up on what they are reporting.

So, I visit the page in question, then go here to search:
http://www.google.com/ie?q=&num=100&hl=en
and look for "the purple" (or, visited link). I can scan hundreds of results within a minute or two this way.
