    Default BrowseRank

Microsoft announced BrowseRank recently. It measures user behavior in its algo. I doubt this will be a threat to Google's domination. We'll see...

It will be an ongoing effort to work out all the bugs (not that PageRank isn't), but anything will be better than what they've been doing - IMO.

There are a lot of pluses but I can't figure out how they'll discover new sites and properly rank sites that do not enjoy a lot of traffic (yet). It seems like this new algo may heavily favor branded sites and wouldn't give new sites a chance.

How would they compare a site that gets 20 visitors a day to a site that gets 2,000,000? It just seems like there would too much room for data errors...would they not even rank new sites?

I guess they could plop new sites on the first page for a few days to see what kind of usage data they get...

I seriously doubt that will threaten Google. MSN is so far behind that by the time they even come close to matching Google, Google will have improved again.

I think the difficulty that most all search engines have in going up against Google is that many relevant sites are optimizing (to some degree) their sites FOR Google. So since Google is now defining relevance, then Browse Rank needs to approximate it. IMO

This makes it more difficult for them to get marginally relevant results in their SERPS without being in the same zip code with their algo. IMO, this protects Google from MSN and others.

Sometimes I feel MSN and Yahoo are lost. It is so hard to find what you are looking for using their search engines. Anyone know how browserank is doing?
