Neophyte career advice

Good day Group Members! I am currently studying for my MA salesperson license. I am looking for a little advice. I am not sure if I want to go right into commissioned sales. I guess you could say it scares me a little. I'm wondering if trying to get a job, once I have my license, doing office admin stuff would be a good move. I have project management experience and am good with Microsoft Office applications, and have also worked doing sales support stuff.

Would brokers be more willing to hire me with my license? And would I learn things that would help me to grow into the salesperson position? I'm not sure how brokers feel about this. Any constructive advice would be much appreciated.

I think having your licence would be an assett, but it still comes down to the requirements for an admin position. IF you had 100% the same skills as another candidate + your licence I would bet 99% of brokers would take you over brand X

Hello Beth. As a broker, I would be more willing to hire you "with" a license.

Regarding what you would learn... that will depend on who you decide to work with. You'll want to check around.

A license is of some value in an admin position. I don't think it will get you much more money, but will put you ahead of other equally qualified applicant's. You can at teh same time start selling part time and get your feet wet that way. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for the replies thus far. Ken, you mentioned doing admin and selling part time. Is that a true possibility? I guess I had been looking at it as an either/or situation. Just wondering what you could share from your experience. Thanks!

I jumped right in as it is just the way I am. Many agents start part time and I am sure that if you are working at the same office that you are selling at things should work out. I would look at a part time admin job and then focus on the selling.

By working part time you will gain some valuable insight into the inner working of a real estate office, make some extra money, and still have enough time to devote to your clients. If you can invest your paycheck into advertising, look at the admin job as a way to grow your business not a way to make a living.

Some companies will be easier to do this with than others, but I am sure you can find at least a couple that would work with you.
