Thread: A Magnitude 6.1 Earthquake has rocked Vancouver Island

"A 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Canada's Vancouver Island on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake was felt at 5:37 a.m. local time and was centered 153 km west-southwest of Port Hardy, B.C., and 472 km west-northwest of Vancouver.

The USGS said the quake was reported at a depth of 10 km. No tsunami warning was issued."


Did anyone at REW wake up from their bed shaking early this morning?

I would have been on my way to work at that time and I felt nothing. Crazy! That's a big one!

That is a big one but still pretty deep and I guess not enough to jolt you.

Possibly not enough to jolt us.. but then again, I was probably sleep walking to work like you said. If I look outside, there's probably cracked streets and broken buildings everywhere.

this morning while listening to the radio, the reports were that there have been 18 reported earthquakes/tremors in the same area in the last week alone, but apparently this is normal activity for the region and there's nothing to be alarmed about!

...still freaky-deaky if you ask me

Yeah - nothing here - although that is VERY far away from where we are (Vancouver Island is the size of a small state)
