    Default Link / Spider Questions

Would a spider be able to follow this link:

    http://summit.mlxchange.com/EmailVie...36&s=SUM&t=SUM

    or this one

    http://breckenridgerealestate.summit...p?r=1891618544

    and / or

is it possible to grab code out of the link above to get the following link to work:

    http://www.amenta.com/temp.html

and if so, would a spider follow this link?

Finally, could some of you please tell me what you see when you follow this link:

    http://breckenridgerealestate.summit...com/?Page=1000

    Thanks!

    Hi Ted

The trick is to use a nifty little tool called mod_rewrite.

    That way you could write
    http://summit.mlxchange.com/ev460579236/SUM/SUM.asp
    but really mean
    http://summit.mlxchange.com/EmailVie...36&s=SUM&t=SUM

    but you could also write
    http://www.amenta.com/ev.asp?id=460579236
still get spidered and use PHP or ASP.net to "get" the content and display it on your site.

Example: this is a sharemarket site I'm working on: http://www.sharechat.co.nz/education/books.php?catid=26
The list of books is generated from a script on the bookstore's site and I just pass in the catid and the affiliate id and then echo out (fpassthru actually) what's sent to me. That way the site never has to update it's book list!

Decide what approach you'd like to take, and then post for more info if you need it.

    Hello Sarah,

I am afraid that this is all a little over my head at the moment. Sometime in the next few days I will investigate this matter further.

My thought was to post these links on my site so that users could see much more detailed listing information than they could find anywhere else online. This would take quite a lot of work for me to organize and post links for about 1,500 listings in my MLS. But on the plus side, I could organize them in such as to have several pages designed in such a way as to target specific keywords. And once all of these pages were set up, it would not be all that hard to keep them updated

Also, when I first started playing with this idea I did not know anything about page rankings and I thought that if spiders could find these pages, they would serve as valuable back links. Now I realize that this would probably not be the case anyway.

    Hi Ted

You do get value from linking to high ranking sites but in this instance there may not be a high rank at that location. I'd add the links and be happy that I'm adding value for my human visitors (the ones with the check books)

    Sarah
