Default 3 Hours of frustration and $27.00 later...

I have a steady internet connection again. I'd like to thank all the little people who made this possible. My brother who completely blew off the idea that this was anyway a problem that he was concerned with. The wireless connection that also failed, bumping my problem up the priority list, and lastly to Roy at Office Depot. Thanks for being so busy you couldn't answer my question on the phone about if you had an 8 port router in stock. Without you all dragging me down, I would have had my internet connection up an hour earlier. Thanks for nothing!

    Welcome back to the www

Isn't it crazy how much we rely on the Internet now and if it goes down, we feel lost.

I used to hook up High speed Internet for a local company about 9 years ago and it would take us sometime 4 hrs to install the modem and the nic on a 486, install software and teach some people how to turn on their pc.

Now a 3 year old can know how to surf the web and go to his websites to play games and watch videos.

Scott, I here you about Ike. I am in Houston, Texas and have found life a bit frustrating as I lost my beach house entirely. When I say lost I mean six posts rising up from concrete and no other sign that it existed. The roof of my house lost about 20% of the shingles and water came pouring into the master bedroom closet. I was without internet at home for three weeks and so went over on my air card usage. Four of my listings had substantial roof damage but hey at least I was only without power for 24 hours.

Whoops, sorry about hijacking the thread just a bit testy today.

What is going on with the beach house? Going to rebuild?

Well havn't decided as I am waiting to find out how the insurance company is going to take care of it. I have mixed feelings about whether to rebuild or not. It was a great location and we always had fun on the weekends making use of it. However, one needs to weigh whether or not it is worth the trouble of rebuilding every so often. And it is really difficult to gauge how often that could be. Devastation like this occuring on galveston island so far has only been twice in 100 years. If I could count on those numbers I would rebuild but you can't who knows when it will get another direct hit.

Sorry, I am starting to ramble.

Not to bad for most people. The majority of damage occured on the southeast side of town where it floods and the island. Most places up North where I live it is hard to tell if anything happened other than missing shingles. But, alot of people are getting the repairs they need now and it has only rained once since the Hurricane. Almost everyone has power and I am starting to see traffic return to my websites. I think that means that life is returning to normal.
