Thread: Is MSN (Live) a dead horse?

  1. #1

Default Is MSN (Live) a dead horse?

Maybe not the perfect title but let's go over the current structural differences of our websites structure that MSN and Google find appealing.

At what point do we hurt our websites SERP on Google by building for MSN?

Has the distribution of hits changed in the past year - Google vs Yahoo vs MSN?

MSN is more likely to improve with the downfall of Yahoo - even if Yahoo gets the deal done with Google.

Do you have a primer on working with MSN? I don't think that anything Microsoft related is dead. When the next version of Windows comes out and everyone (like me) has been putting off upgrading our systems and we move to whatever is after Vista... we are going to be popped over to MSNs site in the beginning. Some people will continue to keep it. Their base will grow, slightly.

I take MSN hits as just gravy. I build and set with an eye towards google and if it works on MSN, great. Last I checked, their user base is less than 10% so I don't think its worth focusing on building a site to maximum the SERPS on MSN.

That's what I have done in the past but it was a kick to see my sites rank at the top on some SE, and I did get some business there.

Google delivers more traffic no doubt - but I am not sure but I swear the traffic from MSN & Yahoo appears more relevant. I'll need to setup someway to track this on the new site, I just need to figure out how I'll do it.

Interesting - how do we adjust your serp in each as to the volume of hits you receive from each?

With serp being equal - I would have thought Google's numbers to have represented 60-70% - Yahoo 20-30% - MSN 5-10% and others >3-5%.

Has Yahoo improved or has Google lost market share??? (say what?)

For some reason i rank real well in each. I dont really know what i do??? I just do somethings i read on here and they seem to help. Like i said in another post, i get alot of links and i make sure my title tags are optimized to the page. It seems to help alot. Alot of my pages dont have alot of content on them but they are updated daily by the snippets i created on the rew sites. Rew makes it real easy to rank with there sites. My worry most months is not ranking it is how to get all the cool features that rew has as upgrades.

I'm on the free Hittail trial right now. Do you think it is better than GA? Or does it just provide the keywords of the searches in a better format?
