I set up one of each of these types of sites related to my main keyword.

Then I make a long tail keyword post to each site -- sometimes I use the exact same content and sometimes I change it a little but the theme is always the same. The posts are short - say 200 words.

Setting up one of each of these sites can be slower if you are unfamiliar so it might take 2 hours to set them all up and another 1 hour to put the posts on again if you are unfamiliar but the next time you go to do it you don't have to do the initial set up so you should be able to do so in under an hour.

You can get more advanced as well by linking deeper into your main site but I find this is not necessary with local search.

    Hope that helps,

    Russ

Squidoo lenses are great if they are used to compliment your existing sites. Relying on Squidoo alone would be a mistake. Last year, they deleted a few lenses I was working on and I still can't figure out why.

    Just a FYI, AmCy.

Using a website address as your username PLUS
another website address as your location PLUS
    7 signature links

= good way for you to get in trouble.

I have heard a lot about squidoo. I was wondering whether its worth the ffort to get it popular so it will help rank your website better on Google? Does anyone every see their Squidoo lens in their website backlinks?

Yes, a Squidoo lens can be a very useful tactical tool in your SEO strategy. For example, my Prime Rate lens drives great traffic to my sites. I link to it from other sites in my portfolio:

I think it's a good idea to create a lens using your keywords and link it to your site, but the one thing I don't like is that it takes a while for your site to get approve. I've created two already and they are fairly easy to do.

After you're done with the lens, you should bookmark them.

I think Squidoo lenses are a great tool! I create them as information pages and throw some long tailed keywords hyperlinked to my website. It works great....... I don't rely on traffic from my Squidoo lenses but just use them to get more high PR backlinks to my site with the keywords I want to target
