Google says 100 links. You have 50 nav links there goes 50 links. You have 10 nav links, you could potentially have 90 link partners (though I wouldnt and I would bet it wouldnt help 50% of those people), now does a spider think that way? Not really, but the idea is that the main body of the page is going to have a bulk of your link partners.
Again I try to keep my pages to 40 or under (most are 20 and under), I would go to 50 if absolutely pushed, but usually I just create a new on topic page instead. Going back to my other response, why would I link with someone that isnt at least offering the same quality link that I am? My "link" pages actually rank on Google and I pass traffic. How many other sites can say that?
Personally, I don't really keep track (but my pages are pretty small), but I do know that if you were to make each "links" page a themed links pages (i.e. Mortgage-lenders.html) and kept the level of links on that page to be something rather useful to anyone actually reading it... say 20-40 - or whatever, it will make your pages better for users and often that makes thigns better for the SE s.... It's fairly easy to make a NEW links page a few days or weeks before it's needed...![]()

hi folks,
the more important thinggie - my opinion - is how many links per external page,
the internal pages did not count actually...

And also remember that many people are completely turned off to come across a site that inundates the eye with blue underlined phrases. It's overwhelming. I agree with the previous posts, keep the main page links to a safe minimum and add other pertinent links to topic pages.

I have been in several discussions regarding the number of links. I no longer believe the actual number, as long as reasonable, matters. The critical factor is what I call the "interplay" between the linking page and the linked page." Google most likely uses a rating scale from negative to highly positive. Some examples, a link farm would be in the negative column, a state, or partner directory in a neutral column while an authority site in the highly positive column.
I was hoping that wasn't what he meant.Originally Posted by frobn
Because you and I have had discussions before on the subject I understand where you are coming from in regards to "interplay" and for the most part I think we agree.
IMO, the number of links on a page "is" a factor. My opinion is based on my interpretation of Google's TrustRank.
