When you are given just an e mail contact, how do you reach out them in your first e mail? Do you send this long e mail selling yourself or do you send a brief, Hey, thank you for registering. Can I help you with anything that you looked at?

Not exactly sure what you mean with the contact. If it's a notification of them registering on your site a short courtesy email is suitable.

Long emails "selling yourself" doesn't seem appropriate, I actually cannot figure out any time that is appropriate. I suggest targeted response: If there is a specific question or request, answer that.
