Well thanks for the explaination, although the reason for daylight savings time in England is that it got too dark too early for the farmers and agriculture was starting to suffer!!!

Actually, the amount of daylight was and is the same. Just a matter of what time you started and what time you finished being adjusted on the clock.

Daylight savings time was created for the war effort so that those that had jobs where they clocked in and out at specific times would have more daylight after clocking out of work to be able to work victory gardens. The farmers would rise and go to work at daylight and work till dusk regardless of what time it was (and still do), other occupations were (and are) more rigid with clock time instead of daytime. Shifting the clock time by one hour gave the clock workers an extra hour of daylight to work the gardens.

IMO, it's an archaic idea and no longer needed.

Absolutely, it is pointless. It drives me nuts also. Why do farmers need to know what time it is? Sun is coming up they start, sun is setting the day is over. Seems pretty simple to me.

Not to mention it's a PITA with all the electronic stereos, stoves, microwaves etc having to change every darn clock in the house.

I've gotten to the point where I no longer reset some clocks and just "know" its 1 hour less!!!!

I say we bring back sun dials. That will REALLY show Daylight Savings Time who's boss.

I absolutely can't stand daylight savings time. Not only does it disrupt my internal clock, but when we "fall back" and the evening daylight hours lessen I can't show as many homes, don't have as much time to fish when I am not working and am depressed when it is 5pm and is either dark or almost dark.

It is funny of all the things out there to get riled up about this is one of the things I just get all bent out of shape about.
