Exclamation Blogging About Listings In My Area..Illegal?

I used the search function first but couldn't find an answer. I was just wondering what the legalities are when it comes to blogging about listings in my area. As long as I do my own write up and link to the realtor selling the property would I be fine?

I'm sure you could do this in a proper way and have proper documentation but there's likely a lot of other things you could blog about that would be as useful and less potential for problems.

If I were to blog about other people's listings I would probably stick to listings of others in my office and then only with permission of the listing agent. Don't think if I would give a link back to them (would mention their name though), and would probably link to the detailed listing from my website.

Each MLS has its own rules about advertising other agents listings. If you don't follow the rules they will let you know in a not so nice way.

Ditto above: In one of my MLS areas you CAN NOT, in the other its a free for all. I do believe in the USA Article 12-A addresses advertising or promoting another agents listing. Perhaps you can start there, but a simple call to your local board will tell you.

Why not blog about HUD listings , I'm pretty sure you're allowed to advertise them regardless of affiliation.

I would ask your question to your broker.

While this should be sound advice, I think it's best to contact your board. Many brokers wouldn't know the correct answer to a question like this.

Is blogging about a particular listing the same as advertising the listing?

It usually will depend on how your MLS board interprets it.

This is true. I just called our Board to find out what our policy is. We are not allowed to advertise other brokers listings except through IDX. For us to be able to write a blog regarding another company's listing, we would have to contact the listing broker and obtain permission.
