Default Is it possible to get started in this market?

I would love to hear honest opinions.

I have worked as a commercial appraiser trainee for a year and I just don't know if that is the route I would like to take. I have done some very interesting residential assignments and feel that my experience as an appraiser could come in handy (knowledge about building materials, etc.) but what I would love to know are your opinions on getting started in a market such as it is?

I was thinking about finishing my RE license and joining a firm that also offers appraisal services so that I could possibly finish my appraisal license. My thoughts are, if I can get started and keep afloat now, I could probably keep it going in ANY market and also have a well established clientele by the time the market picks up again. Any thoughts? Would appreciate the thoughts of new realtors and long experienced.

Thanks for any ideas, I love the forum!

    Suz

Hi Suz! It's all about the proper training. If your firm has a great marketing plan and great systems in place, then anyone can succeed in this market. It's all about quality systems and training programs. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Almost all my Agents were brand new when I brought them on my team and they have almost all succeeded with our systems.

Anything is possible, but you better be prepared to go months without a check.

In my area it is definitely possible. There is a new lady in my office with no sales experience who has managed to close $3 million in sales since May this year. She is doing a great job in a slow market. That is close to what I did my first year here but that was six years ago.

I think the trick would be just to have systems and stick with them, follow up with every lead, and get some training or help if you need it. Also, it wouldn't hurt to have some money set aside to pay the bills for a few months.

Oh yeah, with the recent drop in interest rates it may actually motivate some buyers that have been sitting on the side lines. Buyers are worth a lot right now.

Absolutely. Best time to get it is when nobody's there (fewer competition). So by the time it picks up you'll be well positioned.

If you can survive this, you can survive any market.

For sure, like others have said already, less competition although better competition now that the slackers are dropping off. Like in any business, hard work & dedication will pay off.

Just keep in mind, real estate is the lowest paying easy work and the highest paying hard work.

Your success in this business depends on your skills, patience and attitude.

    Good luck
