Default Do you capitalize "real estate"?

I've noticed that capitalizing the term "real estate" seems to be common practice among agents, e.g. "I work in Real Estate." I was curious if this is done for a reason, as it isn't a term that would normally be capitalized.

    Thank you kindly

    Tracy,

On my part it usually is a grammatical error. Though I used to think it would stand out on the page if it capitalized the first letters of real estate. Someone then explained that is just looks sloppy so I am trying to change.

Good thread, I have always used CAPS but have been trying hard to break that habit and have changed it on my web site as well - at least I think I caught them all.

That's an awesome question. I decided on lower case for real estate (at least I try to stay consistent)...just grammatical reasons and because it "looked right".

Actually, it depends on the usage:

If I use the phrase as a noun or for emphasis, I capitalize it. Granted I take a whole phrase to be a noun as opposed to one word!

If I use it to describe as an adjective, I lower case it.

Not being an english major I'm sure my first usage above is incorrect however, it's also in our business name so I can get away with it

I pretty much always use lower case for real estate unless I am trying to make a point such as, I Love Real Estate! However, then I will use caps for the first letter of every word.

I know it is horrible grammar but it sure looks nice on my flyers for some reason.

I use it both ways depending on if it looks appropriate for the situation. I don't worry about what is right or wrong, I just want it to look good to the user.

Tracy,I often capitalize it in a company name. I think caps convey a bit more professionalism, but as big toe says; depends on the circumstances.

Sometimes it is to emphasize as caps are always used. You being a professional in your position, I would think, what strictly is "appropriate" is the way to go.

We as real estate professionals need it to convey and connect with people and the end result of a connection or recognition is, I think the purpose.

if I'm creating backlinks I always use City Real Estate

also use City Real Estate for descriptive text on website unless using reverse...Ex. if you're looking to buy real estate in City.

If it looks right, go with it....
