Default Yahoo Ranking Like Yo Yo

I'm #1 in MSN for Lake Oswego real estate pretty consistently. First page for Portland real estate, also quite stable. But my ranking in Yahoo goes up and down like a yo yo. It's been 2 months and it never got above #16 (and even that was for one day only). I feel like I'm so stuck in the pit. For Google, it's still no where in sight. Can anyone one shed some light please? Thanks a million!

Yahoo does seem to me to be like a Yo Yo sometimes too. I must say that as far as a search engine I have always liked them far more than anyone else. I've always seemed to find more there than Google or MSN. They have always been my home page on my computer just about ever since I was on AOL dial up for a connection. Seems like any way.

    Max,

Yahoo seemingly can take forever to move up in the rankings. Be patient and keep working at it and it'll happen. I made a similar post to yours when I first came here. Not sure if I can remember the exact reply was from Morgan but it was basically like Kyle said. Use keywords in your H1, H2,... tags and sprinkle your keywords in your <p> tags. Sure enough, not long after doing that I began to make progress in the Yahoo serps.

I feel so stupid. What are H1, H2 and <p> tags?

    H1 - Heading 1 format style.

    H2 - Heading 2 format style

    <p> - paragraphs

From what I have learned you will want to include your keywords in your:

    Page Title,

Meta tags (mostly for MSN and Yahoo)

H1 - Heading 1 - use the H1 format, instead of using bold and larger font size.

<p> then sprinkle your keywords in a paragraph following the H1 heading tags.

H2 - Heading 2 - you may want to use your keywords again in the H2 format style followed by another paragraph including your keywords on a limited basis.

In my limited experience - I find that Yahoo bounces sites in and out more than Google or MSN especially at first.

Hope that helps - If you use Microsoft products like Word the same style concept is used with Normal, H1, H2 .... format styles.

There are several advantages including that you can change a particuliar style and have the effects change through out the site.

If you are just starting you will find that learning about styles and then CSS will be of great value as you travel down the path...

    Max,

I've skipped to the heading tag page in the SeoGuy tutorial:
    http://seo-guy.com/seo-tutorial/visible-text.html

Of course, you should start at page one...

I'm still trying to learn this. Every time I use a heading tag it changes the rest of my fonts on my sites & looks bad. I haven't had much luck. Plus, I've read it over & over & it isn't sinking in!

I understand (I think) that the h1 tag would most likely be my main kw - such as Cook County Real Estate, but I can't truly understand heading 2 & 3 tags. On other's sites it doesn't seem like those h2 & h3 tags are setting actual kw's apart.
Money Magazine says that Orland Park real estate is one of the best places to live in the U.S. Check out Homer Glen homes if you're interested in living in the newest Chicago suburb. Next door, Lemont homes are the priciest in the southwest suburbs and have held their value, even appreciating while prices in other areas have gone down.

Be careful not to go overboard on the H1 tags - I found my self using it way to much. After getting some feedback to that effect, I started using H2 and H3 more. And my placements in Yahoo started climbing. You can always adjust the H2 and H3 styles if you want.

IMO, when it comes to "H1", once is enough.
