No one ever knows if Google has ever changed anything unless they announce it. Ranks will always fluctuate to some extent just keep building the links and working on your SEO it`s a long hard road.

Google is constantly playing with the algo. I read somewhere that there were 485 changes in 2008 alone.

I'm sorry to say that because of the contract I have, I cannot share too specific info.

To be general, I pause link building a few days and the keyword dropped from page 2 to something like 7th-10th

Google SERPS are changing a lot sometimes. For some keywords I also see sometimes big fluctuations. But they always seem to come back to their original position.

Is it happening for all keywords or only for some ?

I've seen some major flux in a couple of my niches over the last couple of weeks but no notable changes in the real estate sites.

As was stated above, it's best not to try to draw any conclusions, when you see the changes, until you see where they're going to finally lite.

There's a pr update going on which in of itself wouldn't cause your keywords to drop.

My site dropped from the 4th spot to the 8th. And I was thinking that someday soon I could be number 1!

I also noticed that one of my competitors who has been number 1 for a while was just dropped to number 2 and our MLS took the number one spot. I really hate having to compete with them!!

Remember, during holidays and other major events, the algo shifts towards trends. This effects almost every search while it takes place. Now that the holidays are over and in between superbowl and tax time, everything should be where it is going to be. Watch for another shift before the superbowl. Anything superbowl related during their season, gets favor based on historical data and past trends vs, new relevant content, thus an entire shift.

There's a lot of money to be made if the searches yield the right results at the right time of the year. Google does this because their adwords/adsense ads are all over the place. It is a smart move for them and other businesses for each season/holiday/event.
