Thread: Newbie question: pointing to pages in HTML

Default Newbie question: pointing to pages in HTML

Ok, so I get the concept of HTML but outworking it is a different thing altogether. In my snippets, how do I point to pages. I think I see where I need to put the info, but how do I write it into the space? Is there a special format to do so?

Also, my communities page is not showing up - says page not found http://dev178.rewtemplates.com/communities.php
Why is this? Is there something that still needs to be built in here that I don't yet have? I created a page in the backend to send people to different communities we focus on when I can learn to point it correctly, but now I am wondering if I messed up the HTML for that page. I do believe this page always said "page not found" though

More dumb newbie questions to come. I appreciate you patience and I will pay it forward after I learn this stuff!

On your main community page, try changing your "Filename/Alias" line from "Montgomery-County-and-DC-Communities" to just "communities" and see if that works.

Ok - I atleast have a drop down of the communities now. But the landing page of the communities still says "page not found".

Not sure how your site is set up, but try using all lower case for communities. Looks like you may have capitalized the C.

What specific snippet is your other question about?

There are several snippet questions, but maybe this will answer it for most:
In the two column snippet - How do you point a page or link to the rest of the article when it says to "read full summary"
My preference it to have the entire article show up on the page. I don't even want to break up the article on the home page. It looks messy and we are looking for a cleaner look.

I know there are other snippets where I need to point to pages that are not showing up because I haven't linked them yet. An example is the "Sidebar Featured Communities" which I made into "articles" or "places of interest"
since the communities are already listed below it.

Hope that is not too confusing.

Option one is to just get rid of the 2-columns-homepage snippet off of your home page and write on the home page whatever you want. The snippet does not necessarily need to be there. It is just used as a teaser to direct a visitor to another page. However, you point to another page in the snippet under the <div class="col-footer"> area in the snippet by inputting the redirect page there.

you can change what you want to show within the snippet. You do not need to limit it to just communities. For example, you can change where it says "Main Navigation" within the <h2> tags to what you want to show on your site.. ie <h2>Quick Search Navigation</h2>

    Hope that helps a bit.

Ok, so just to be clear . . . within the <h2> is the filename/alias name that we added to each page?
