Late to this chat but I too have seen a similar % drop in indexed pages. I'll dig around a little more and share more specifics...

Bogart - Great thought and I'm working on more "thoughtful" architecture and "natural" deep linking. But I think a lot of REWers are similar % drops in indexed pages so I bet G dup. filter modification is the "culprit" as previously mentioned. Thanks, Bogart...

after your heads up I went back through the 404's and I have a bit of cleaning up to do...not sure if many of them are fixable as it appears quite a few are related to snippets or listing details??
After the initial index drop it's been pretty stable (well ups and downs that are more within reason) so I hope everyone else is seeing the same if not going back up.
I see a long weekend ahead of me
thanks for everyone's input.....it's been very helpful and we are always ready to hear more!!

This effect seems to be more of a change in the way the site: command works than a drop in the number of pages indexed. Google's site: command results have always been questionable. Now it seems that they are simply not showing IDX details page in the site: results, even for pages that are indexed. My site: results show fewer than 10 IDX detail pages indexed. But when I do specific MLS# searches or address searches, using MLS#s not in the site: list, those details pages do appear in the SERPs. Just one more way for Google to confuse us.
