Default Real Estate Link Building: Local vs. General

I am fairly new to SEO so this question is probably pretty basic:

If I have a local real estate site, will I benefit more from having links from other local sites, or having links from general RE sites?

So: a link from Richmond Real Estate.com vs. from Real Estate.com ?

I left a response to your questions on the other forum you posted on. You can check there for my take on the subject as I wrote a book I have no interest in rewritting nor should we have duplicate content on the forum.

Actually James, you answered a totally different question of mine on the other forum (best place to host a blog). This is the only time I've posed the question about local vs. general links. I don't do duplicate content.

My apolagizes I saw another post remembered your name and obviously skipped over reading your whole post here. To answer this question it is important to have both. Local links help with local search rankings but large authority sites give authority. I don't think you can be number one without a bit of both. In the end what is most important is that you gain high quality links and do not build them to fast. I did an experiment with a site and at first the rapid link building made the webpage scream through rankings then all of sudden it fell and was not comming back. When I stopped building any links for three weeks it started to creep back up. Don't over do it and have links from authority sites as well as local sites. Good Luck!

That's very helpful advice, James. Makes sense. Thank you.

How much is too fast? Is it ok to share that info.

As newbie I always believe that more link is better and ignore the rest.

this topic just like a slap in the back of my head. ()

DannBkk, If your site has 40,000 inlinks, aquiring 30 a day should be no problem. If your site has 40 inlinks, aquiring 30 a day would probably set off some flags. So I would just keep it a natural percentage of your sites total. Good Luck!

Well, if you want to rank well on your targeted countries better target site hosted on your targeted countries. But links from general sites would still be helpful.
