Yahoo directory listings - worth it?

In a recent SEO class, we looked at many keywords and a lot of the top 10 listings in very tough niches had paid to be listing in yahoo. I was also told that being in the the Yahoo directory is a factor for Google's ranking.

I suspose I can sum up my position by saying that if you are going to pay to be in a directory, Yahoo is my first choice. Then it's a hodge podge of BOTW, business.com, etc.

Do these paid directories help? Clearly they do. How much do they help you in the Google rankings? We have no idea, but we think that they do...a little.

Too expensive for the ROI. You can get similar results from BOTW(cheaper) or Dmoz(free)

...only if a DMOZ editor gets you in there. I've had it take a year to get listed in the open directory project.
