about once a week is the most for me. I find that if I send more than that then people will start unsuscribing.

If the lead left a phone number you want to contact them at least every other day until they answer. Leaving a voicemail is optional. If they just left an email you can respond to them several times for the first week or two. If they don't respond then you should put them in some sort of drip campaign.

I follow up about every 2-3 days for the first two weeks, then just once or twice a month

I was reading (I need to stop doing that) that over 70% of web leads are non-responsive in the first 90 to 120 days. I used to call these dead leads but I've found some are just reading and waiting and contact me when I was about to give up. Ya can't please everybody, but you no doubt are pleasing some.
Great Oakland Real Estate Information. Search the MLS for Oakland homes and condos. Berkeley, Piedmont and Alameda too!

Though this consumes a lot of time but it is a part of marketing game, so we shouldn’t mind. The content of the introductory mail should be interesting and complete information shouldn’t be provided in one go. After making them curious to know the unbelievable price or free home offers, we should invite the readers to get back.

Nice approach. Hope it works when you get to try it.

Maybe it's because it went to their spam box or they just assumed you don't need them to respond.
