How many links do I want from a site?

If I blog on Active rain, I get one or two do-follow links. Do I want more than that ? Does it help to have 100 links from a site?

I put a blog post on Trulia and don't get any do-follows.
I put one on RealtyChat and I got as many as I wanted on my post.
I put one on REW blog and got 2 do follows.

Does it matter how many I have from a site?

Generally, no. It's actually better to have 10 links from 10 different websites (that are on different IP addresses) than to have 100 links from 3 websites.

Tony think diversity but at the same time there is also value in building authority on other web properties (like your REW blog) so the links to your site have more value. Not all links are equal - that is the real trick to see which ones are the most valuable.

I read somewhere that Google factors in the age of the links too. Is that true?

Link age (how long a link has been there) is also a factor, but, like anyone you ask, how much of a factor it is is certainly debatable.

I don't see anything about link age being listed as a factor in the URL you posted. What facts are you basing your statement from?

I was actually thinking of "age of document", in that if there's a link on a page that's "older" and the link has been there a long time (the page is older and has not changed over the years...

But I would also consider "age of link" (which certainly is debatable). See the comments on the SEO ranking factors page.
