I think there are varying degrees of "spinning" too.

A true "spin" ends up awkward & sloppy 99% of the time because all you're doing is replacing phrases for alternate phrases, and it often turns out reading like someone who speaks English as a 2nd language (very poorly) wrote it.

HOWEVER - a good re-write can often be an improvement to the original article.

ie: 1) Write an article for your blog.
    2) Pay a college kid to re-write that article & post it to hub-pages.
    3) Pay a different college kid to re-wirte that article & offer it as a guest post on someone else's blog.
    4) If you care to - Wash/rinse/repeat for iSnare/Goarticles/activerain, etc.

Yes - it's more costly - but all of those articles would be something you'd be proud to have your name (and link) on, AND in the long run, it will be far better than computer spinning 1 article into a dozen variations of the article.

I have used article spinning in the past with mixed results. I have always found that if you use spun articles then you should use pseudonyms when you are submitting the articles to the same article directories and give each article a unique title.

I use to try and spin articles, but I found it took me longer to make them unique, so now I just search the web for multiple topics, and I try to condense them into one topic in my own words. The end result usually comes out pretty good, and the content is unique.

I used to have a different take on using 'spinned' articles. After considering the competition on the SERPs and the extensive coverage I needed, I was compelled to the idea, which I believe it does make sense if one is to be successful online.
