Relevancy of backlinks question

Ok. I didn't want to hog the forum by asking a bunch of questions, so I decided to do a search for "relevancy" and couldn't find the answer I was looking for.

How are backlinks from relevant sites calculated as compare to backlinks from non relevant sites?

Take this example . you have two site REW (PR 5) and DigitPoint (PR 5)

Does 1 back link from REW equal 10 from DP? Assuming RE site only.

Note: I know I posted this question in some other post, but I felt this is something that deserves it's own thread instead of being potentially buried in other threads.

It is really tough to assign a weight or number to it, but most certainly "relevance" or topic specificity carries weight in the backlink calculation at Google. The more on topic the site, the more likely it is an authority on a subject.

I wouldn't worry about "how much more" rather just focus on keeping your link building to a natural and organic pattern.

I hear that term use a lot what is considered natural and organic with google? I went from having 250 backlinks to now having 1100 backlinks in a span of 45 days. Is that natural?

850 backlinks in 45 days? That's more than I would be comfortable with...but then again, nobody can answer your question for sure unless they work for G.

I would say that it depends on how many links you were getting on average before you started link-building...

Think about it: if you were a search engine shot-caller, would you setup the algorithm to detect if a site has only 250 links for say... 1 year..and then all of a sudden it gets 850 more? I sure would!

But as previously mentioned, nobody but Matt Cutts can answer your Q.

As a general rule I adhere by for each of my SEO clients, I try to get 5 links per day for each of them.

It's up to 1500 Backlinks now according to yahoo site. My site was inactive for a year, so it went from having zero new BLs each month to 1200 in 1 1/2 month. So far google has not slapped me yet and I still on page 1.

What I am trying to find out is relevancy of the links and how they play into the backlink equation. Maybe I should stop worrying and start building more backlinks like the WEbmaster said.
