Default too many links on a page question

I recently read this on a SEO site:

"I have a dynamic marquee on my site which I believe gives useful up to date information to my site visitors. However, I have revisited Google guidelines and checked my site on a Lynx text browser (as they suggested) and it is showing that I have 143 links on the pages of which 96 of them are from the marquee. Google say keep the links to under 100. "

My questions for the pros are:
Is the idea to not make your page look like a link farm? What about directories or link resource pages on some real estate sites that have hundred of links? How are they treated? My site has back links on some of them.. not place by me, but by the site owner.

In my opinion, it could look like link spam and it's not user friendly but it also dilutes the relevancy of the links on your page and the authority they pass. For eg. If your home page has 50 outbound links on it and your home page is a PR 5, the value passed to each link is 5/50. You should want to control the link juice that you are spreading. You'll want to interlink your main site pages, deep link to them, and link out to authority sites. If you have to have a lot of out going links, consider 'no following' some of them.

Hmmm. I'm not sure I answered your question - I may have gotten side tracked.

I have a few pages that are resources. For example, I have a Lake Travis restaurant guide. It has too many links, but is a useful resources for site visitors. I just set the page noindex and figure that is a good indicator to Google that I'm not being spammy.

I have a question, if my site homepage has 50 internal links and 4 outbound is it: PR/54 that gets pass to all of the pages? Also can you go a little bit more on deep linking? I hear that often, but don't really know what it means. thanks

To answer your first question - Yes. A link is a link whether internal or external. Deep linking just refers to a link that links to a page on your site other than the home page. A direct link to that sub page gives that page some direct authority.
